Igualdade Capoeira

From being recognized nationally in the 20th century after being banned, the evolution of resistance and cultural significance impacted my choice to do this project. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art with roots brought over by enslaved Africans. It combines dance, acrobatics, and music to connect people and preserve traditions.  Igualdade means equality and it highlights the community within capoeira.

I wanted to showcase the link between Africa and its diaspora. This is my representation of what comes to mind when I think of capoeira. Pictures are taken from my aulas (classes) with my capoeira group in Rio de Janeiro.
